The Châteauneuf-sur-Loire bridge is the only bridge over the Loire in Châteauneuf-sur-Loire in the Loiret department in France . It connects the town north of the river with the agricultural areas to the south, including the village of Sigloy, 2.5 km away.

The closest bridges are the 15 km upstream in Sully-sur-Loire and 8 km downstream in Jargeau .

description

The Châteauneuf-sur-Loire bridge, which was built on the basis of a 90-year concession and opened in 1841, is one of the numerous suspension bridges built by Marc Seguin and his company Marc Seguin Freres in France .

The road bridge has two lanes and a walkway on both sides. Its length of 276.50 m is divided into three span fields of 59.40 m each and two span fields on the bank of 49.15 m each. It therefore has four pairs of wrought iron pylons one behind the other and also a pair of short pylons on the banks directly in front of the anchor blocks. The double suspension cables with a diameter of 80 mm do not run across the entire bridge, but only from the tip of one pylon to the next. Vertical hangers made of 45 mm thick steel rods are attached to the suspension cables to support the bridge deck. So-called compensation ropes (câble d'équilibre) are also stretched between the tips of the pylons. The short pylons on the banks are each attached to the anchor blocks with six anchor ropes. The bridge deck is divided into individual deck girders corresponding to the span. These box girders, also made of wrought iron, are mounted on joints on the pylons so that they have enough space for temperature-related changes in length. Rails are attached to the side of the box girders, which carry the bridge inspection walkway of the respective span.

The two tension fields destroyed by the French military during the Franco-Prussian War were rebuilt in 1872.

In 1892 the bridge was taken over by the Loiret department. Since it was no longer able to cope with the growing traffic over the decades, it was renewed in 1935. In 1940 it was destroyed again when the French army withdrew and was rebuilt after the war in 1946.
