Brothers of St. Joseph Benedikt Cottolengo
The Brothers of St. Joseph Benedikt Cottolengo also known as Cottolenginer , ( Latin : Congregatio Fratrum in Sancto Josepho Benedicto Cottolengo , order abbreviation : FSGC ) are an order of brothers under papal law in the Roman Catholic Church . It was founded in Turin in 1833 by St. Giuseppe Benedetto Cottolengo (1786–1842) .
history
The brotherhood founded by Don Cottolengo in 1833 in the “Little House of Divine Providence”, a small hospital in Turin, is a congregation under papal law . Giuseppe Benedetto Cottolengo belongs to the group of Turin social saints , in 1828 he built a small hospital in Turin ( Italian : "Piccola Casa della Divina Provvidenza" ) for the poor and the sick. In addition to this brotherhood, he also founded an order of women who belong to the Congregation of the Sisters of Saint Vincent . The “Little House of Divine Providence” has now become a hospital with over 2000 beds.
The order members take the religious vows of poverty, obedience and chastity . The community was founded on April 30, 1965 by Pope Paul VI. approved . The main focus of the Cottolenginer's work is nursing. The 66 brothers serve in 11 houses in Italy , Switzerland , Ecuador , India , Kenya , Tanzania and the United States .
