Brüggler (notable family)
The Brüggler family was a Bernese family of notables that belonged to the Middle Lions Society and became extinct in 1630 in the male line.
history
A Rudolf Brüggler is mentioned as a burger from Bern in a sales deed in 1333. The notable Ludwig Brüggler married Margarete Schopfer in 1380. He held various political offices and in 1411 joined the Small Council. His great-grandson Ludwig Brüggler († 1479) married Cäcilia von Buch and thus came into the possession of the lordships of Mühleberg , Englisberg and Riedburg . In his second marriage he was married to Barbara von Erlach († 1502). Sulpitius Brüggler († 1600) married Beatrix von Erlach in 1564 and thus owned the dominions of Hindelbank and Mattstetten . His cousin Ludwig Brüggler (1543–1602) married Salome Nägeli in 1567, daughter of Hans Franz Nägeli and heiress of the Bremgarten estate . Emperor Rudolf II raised the Brüggler family to the nobility in 1587 . The family went out in 1630 with the Grand Councilor Christoph Brüggler.
