The Brütting & Co. EB-Sport Int. GmbH is a German sports shoe manufacturer that was originally founded in 1946 by Eugen Brütting as a shoe manufacturer. Brütting later merged with the trading company Geka-Sport GmbH and is now a medium-sized company based in Küps in Upper Franconia .

history

The foundation stone for the Brütting company was laid in 1946 by the trained “shoe modeller” Eugen Brütting when he opened his own shoe factory.

In 1965, Brütting founded the EB-Sport-International branch , which focused on athletics. In 1966, Arnd Krüger became the first German (indoor) champion in Brütting shoes. His comprehensive range of specialty shoes for athletes in a wide variety of sports established itself over time. Among other things, shoes for fencers, weightlifters, boxers, wrestlers and runners were offered. Probably the most famous wearers of the Brütting brand were Liesel Westermann , who won the silver medal in the discus at the 1968 Olympic Games , Bernd Kannenberg , who won gold in the 1972 Olympic Games , and Peter Müller , boxer and former German champion middleweight.

Together with the New Zealand track and field trainer Arthur Lydiard and various other athletes, Eugen Brütting developed the "Roadrunner" running shoe as early as 1970, which is one of the archetypes of modern running shoes with its lightweight suede instead of smooth leather with a cushioning midsole made of cellular rubber and because of its new sickle lasts enjoyed an excellent reputation among the entire elite of runners at the time. The company's other sporting goods included u. a. the Helmut Haller sports / football pants .

This later resulted in the “Siesta” foot recovery shoe, whose special feature was optimal foot adaptation.

In 1972 Brütting recognized the growing importance of the tennis market and put his second model and production focus on tennis shoes.

At the same time, Gerhard Krapp went into business for himself in May 1973 with GEKA-Sport GmbH , which was also active in the shoe and sports sector. In September 1984 Bernhard Meyer was hired as the second managing director, with whom Gerhard Krapp took over the Brütting company together in the mid-1980s. The operation was finally continued under the new name EB-Sport Schuh-Vertriebs GmbH .

Eugen Brütting was available to the company from 1984 as a modeller and also as a consultant until his death in 1991. Furthermore, he continued to work in the last development department at Brütting. In the same year the company was renamed again and was henceforth Brütting & Co.EB-Sport Int. GmbH .

Eleven years later (2002) Gerhard Krapp retired and Bernhard Meyer became the owner of the Brütting company .

After years of expansion, Brütting introduced the new own brand “EB-Kids” in 2007, replacing its “Maus” collection in the children's shoe segment. Bernhard Meyer was replaced as managing director by Tobias Dormann in 2011. Bernhard Meyer has been working as a consultant for Brütting since then.

“The German top runners and many of the world's elite then ran Brütting's models for almost a decade […] Franz-Josef Kemper , Manfred Steffny , Werner Gierke, Manfred Lötzerich, Hans-Jürgen Orthmann , Gerhard Weidner - and besides them, a thousand nameless people chose the same model . "
