The British Journal of Surgery , abbreviated to Br. J. Surg. , is a scientific journal published by Wiley-Blackwell-Verlag. It was founded in 1913 and merged in 2002 with the journal Swiss Surgery, which existed until 2003 (emerged in 1995 from the Swiss journal Helvetica Chirurgica Acta , founded in 1945 and replaced by Swiss Knife in 2004 ) and the European Journal of Surgery , which in turn was formed in 1991 Merger of Acta Chirurgica Scandinavica (founded in 1869 as Nordiskt Medicinskt Arkiv ), the Netherlands Journal of Surgery (founded in 1949 as Archivum Chirurgicum Neerlandicum ) and the journal Theoretical Surgery (founded in 1986).
The journal has links with the Association of Surgeons of Great Britain and Ireland , the Society of Academic and Research Surgery , the Swedish Surgical Society and the Swiss Society for Surgery; it is published twelve times a year. Works from all areas of surgery are published.
The impact factor in 2014 was 5.542. According to statistics from the ISI Web of Knowledge , the journal with this impact factor ranks fifth out of 198 journals in the surgery category.
