Martin Uhrmacher (* 1971 in Koblenz ) is a German - Luxembourg historian .

Scientific career

In 1991 Martin Uhrmacher began studying history, historical regional studies , classical archeology and ancient history at the University of Trier , which he completed in 1998 with a master's degree. He then became a research assistant in the hospitals project in the Rhine-Maas-Moselle region from the 7th to the 15th century of the Collaborative Research Center 235 Between the Maas and the Rhine at the University of Trier (led by Franz Irsigler and Michel Pauly ). From 1998 to 1999 he also worked on the Historical Atlas of the Rhineland under the direction of Franz Irsigler and Rudolf Straßer . In 2007 he received his doctorate from the university with a thesis on leprosy and leprosoria in the Rhenish region from the 12th to the 18th century .

Since the University of Luxembourg was founded in 2003, he has worked there at the Institute for History . In August 2018 he was appointed Assistant Professor . His research areas are the historical regional studies of Luxembourg , the Greater Region and the Rhineland , as well as city ​​history , social and economic history , historical cartography and the history of medicine . Since 2010 he has been leading research projects on the history of the Luxembourg city. In cooperation with the City of Luxembourg, the university research project VILLUX X, which he has led since 2016, is dedicated to the creation of a digital and interactive historical atlas of the City of Luxembourg. On November 28, 2019, the atlas was presented to the public and the Luxatlas.lu site went live.
