The Brabant farm chicken or Brabançonne is a domestic chicken breed that comes from the area around Brussels , Mechelen and Leuven and is one of the typical coarse country fowls . The breed goes back to chickens that were raised in the county of Brabant in Flanders in the 17th century .

A distinctive head of feathers behind the comb is characteristic of the breed. The forelock is particularly pronounced in the females, the hen wears the breed-typical comb, which is wavy in the front. The rooster wears a simple, upright cockscomb. The hens are considered very vital and fertile. All in all a resilient breed with a remarkable laying performance. The wild chicken-like behavior is also interesting.

In Germany, the breed was only included in the breed standard in the 1990s.

There is another breed of domestic chicken called the Brabanter . However, this is an ornamental chicken type.
