Brachylophus gau is a species of iguana that is endemic to the forests of the Fijian island of Gau . The species was first recorded by Scottish naturalist John MacGillivray in 1854 while traveling on the HMS Herald , but it wasn't until 2017 that the species received its own species description.
features
Brachylophus gau is the smallest of the four recent species of Fiji iguanas . It is 13% smaller than the next largest species and 40% smaller than the largest species.
distribution
Brachylophus gau lives endemically in the forests of the island of Gau , mainly in the high forests in the interior. Small populations can also be found in the coastal forests.
