Nishijima studied Zen under Kōdō Sawaki and Rempo Niwa and founded the Buddhist group Dogen-Sangha. After a few years he received the Dharma transmission from Nishijima and he started to write texts about Buddhism and other topics on his homepage, from 2005 on his blog.

Warner does not understand Buddhism as a religion, but as a philosophy of action. He rejects the doctrine of rebirth. He regards his Zen practice as a further development of his earlier experiences in the punk scene, which he views quite critically.
style
Warner writes in everyday language , uses humor, and often refers to elements of pop culture.
Others
Brad Warner is a vegetarian. He also rejects alcohol and other drugs . The punk scene Warner experienced was very much influenced by that in Washington, DC ( DC Hardcore ), most notably the straight edge band Minor Threat .
