The Bragg Islands are a small group of islands off the Loubet coast of Graham Land on the Antarctic Peninsula . They are located in Crystal Sound at a distance of 11 km north of Cape Rey , which is at the western end of the Pernik Peninsula .
They were mapped using aerial photographs taken by the American Ronne Antarctic Research Expedition (1947–1948) and with the help of measurements by the Falkland Islands Dependencies Survey between 1958 and 1959. The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named them after the British physicist William Henry Bragg ( 1862–1942), who determined the position of oxygen atoms in the crystal structure of ice using characteristic X-rays .
