The Bramstenge (above) extends the ship's mast

The Bram or Bram stenge is the second extension of a ship's mast , above the Marsstenge . All rigging elements ( spreader , yards , sails , standing rigging ) attached to it are named after her: Bramsegel , Bramrah , Bramstengestag , Brampardunen etc. It used to be made of wood.

For reasons of stability, the Bramstengen, particularly large, multi-masted sailors were made from sheet steel as early as the end of the 19th century and at the beginning of the 20th century (such as the following ships: France , Prussia and Passat ).
