Brandon (noble family)

Brandon was a family of English nobility who briefly played a prominent role at the national level. They were grouped mainly around Charles Brandon, 1st Duke of Suffolk , who helped determine English politics as a favorite and later brother-in-law of King Henry VIII .

It was the marriage with Heinrich's sister Mary Tudor that made his granddaughter Lady Jane Gray the third in line to the throne of Edward VI. did what the Gray and Dudley families took advantage of in 1553 to proclaim her Queen of England (for 9 and 13 days respectively) past Edward's sisters Maria I. Tudor and Elisabeth Tudor .

The end of the Brandon family was marked by the deaths of Charles Brandon's sons Henry and Charles in 1551, who died of English sweat in quick succession . With her sister Frances Brandon , Jane Grey's mother, the family died out completely in 1559.
