Brandon Carter.

Brandon Carter (* 1942 ) is an Australian theoretical physicist . He is best known for his work on black holes and for his formulation of the anthropic principle in its current form. Carter conducts research at the Center national de la recherche scientifique in Paris, at the Paris- Meudon Observatory .

Carter studied at Cambridge University with Dennis Sciama . He made significant contributions to the "golden age" of general relativity in the 1960s and 1970s. Together with Werner Israel and Stephen Hawking , he proved the “ no hair theorem ” in general relativity, according to which static black holes are fully characterized by mass, angular momentum and charge. In the 1980s he formulated the doomsday argument .

In 2005 Carter, Chachoua and Chamel formulated a relativistic theory for elastic deformations in neutron stars .
