Under the French Pointing Dog ( Braque français ) the FCI ( No. 133/134, Gr. 7, Sec. 1.1 ) has two recognized pointing dogs from France.

Origin and history

The French pointing dog is certainly one of the oldest short-haired pointing dog breeds in France. The origin goes back to the Middle Ages. Traditionally, we find the Braque Français mainly in the southern half of France. From around 1830, two lofts were bred out of the heavy, slow pointing dogs of Gascogne and Oysel (regions in south-west France). In 1883 the author Espée de Sélincourt described the Braque Français very precisely for the first time. French cynology began to organize itself in 1850 and gave the much sought-after dog the name it still bears today: Braque Français. Around 1880, Mr. Sénac-Lagrange took over the breed structure, the standard of which can still be seen today in these dogs.

Thanks to its size and its passion for hunting, the Braque Français is valued in all regions of France. After the German Shorthaired Pointer and the Weimaraner , the Braque Français ranks third in the popularity list of short-haired pointing dogs in France.

description

Brackish type dog : the copious hair is rather coarse; finer on the head and ears, in the colors: chestnut brown, chestnut brown and white, chestnut brown with strong white dots and chestnut brown with tan markings, in the Pyrenean type even finer and shorter. The ears are set at the level of the eye line, of medium length, slightly folded, well framing the head. The Gascony is up to 69 cm larger than the Pyrenees with up to 58 cm.

Hunting use

The Braque Français has an excellent sense of tracking and tracking, good pointing, a pronounced ability to bring and a very good passion for hunting. It is used for hunting before and after the shot. He is easy-going, very eager to learn, leader-oriented and adaptable. It is durable and very resistant to the effects of the weather. In the field he is an excellent helper, in the forest, in the field, in the thicket and also in the mountains. His love of retrieving is innate.
