Brasilicereus phaeacanthus is a species of the genus Brasilicereus in the cactus family(Cactaceae).

description

Brasilicereus phaeacanthus grows with more or less upright, sometimes leaning-climbing shoots that branch out from the base , have a diameter of 4 to 9 centimeters and a stature height of up to 4 meters. There are 8 to 13 low, narrow ribs . The areoles are covered with whitish wool. The 1 to 3 yellowish brown central spines are up to 3 centimeters long. The 10 to 12 yellowish radial spines are between 10 and 15 millimeters long.

The whitish green to greenish flowers are up to 6.5 centimeters long and have a diameter of 6 centimeters. Your flower tube is slightly curved upwards. The slightly humped fruits reach a diameter of up to 1.5 centimeters.

Systematics, distribution and endangerment

Brasilicereus phaeacanthus is common in the Brazilian state of Bahia . It was first described as Cereus phaeacanthus in 1908 by Robert Louis August Maximilian Gürke . Curt Backeberg placed them in the genus Brasilicereus in 1942 .

In the Red List of Threatened Species of IUCN is the species as " Endangered (EN) ," d. H. listed as endangered.
