Former Hellein brewery in Merkendorf

The Hellein Brewery (also Vorderer Hellein ) was a beer brewery on Marktplatz 2 in the town of Merkendorf in the Franconian Lake District , Middle Franconia .

history

The Hellein brewery was founded in 1717 by the Merkendorf family of the same name. The brewery was housed in today's restaurant "Rathaus-Stuben" and in the current town hall after she had bought the building cheaply.

The end of the Hellein brewery came after the Second World War . In January 1965 the brewery was taken over by the Lichtenau brewery Hauff after brewery owner Wilhelm Hellein did not return from the war. His wife Kathinka Hellein, who continued the business, died in 1958. The parents left behind their then 13-year-old son Wilhelm. Two years after the takeover by Hauff-Bräu, the Hellein brewery was shut down in 1967.
