Wilhelm Koch (local history researcher)

Wilhelm Koch (born January 18, 1926 in Dietenhofen ; † December 8, 2018 ) was a German civil servant , local history researcher and author .

Life

Wilhelm Koch spent his youth and school days in Eichstätt and Ansbach , where he attended the Oberrealschule (today's Platengymnasium Ansbach ). In 1943 he became the military convened and came after a brief captivity in 1945 after Merkendorf , where his parents lived.

Koch began to get involved in his new hometown of Merkendorf. After studying engineering in Munich , he came to the Land consolidation office in Ansbach (now the Office for Rural Development ) in 1950 , where he worked for 38 years. In 1964 Wilhelm Koch married Margarete Hemm from Merkendorf. The couple had two children.

In 1988 Koch retired and joined the Merkendorf u. Around 1949 e. V. a. In 1987, he supported former mayor Heinrich Helmreich in compiling the town's home directory. Together with Heinrich Helmreich, Koch also supported the establishment of the Merkendorf local history museum , which was initiated by the Verein der Freunde Triesdorf . The museum was established in 1993 on the two upper floors of the former tithe barn . Over time, Wilhelm Koch had collected around 3,000 exhibits for the local museum.

In 2009 Koch resigned as 2nd chairman of the Heimatverein for reasons of age and left the post to Werner Wiedmann.

Koch initiated the special exhibition "War and Peace" , which was opened in the Merkendorfer Steingruberhaus in May 2005 on the occasion of the end of the war 60 years ago.

Wilhelm Koch also wrote information boards for historical buildings in the old town of Merkendorf and in 2009 wrote some of the information boards on the two-city hiking trail Merkendorf - Wolframs-Eschenbach .

honors and awards

On the 600th anniversary of the city, Wilhelm Koch received the gold medal in 1998 and the Merkendorf plate of honor in 2006 for his "constant commitment to preserving the history" of his adopted home Merkendorf.
