The Märkl brewery is a small traditional brewery in Freudenberg in the Upper Palatinate . The brewery currently has an output of around 5,000 hectoliters of beer per year.

The brewery in Freudenberg

The brewery was first mentioned in 1466 and has been owned by the Märkl family since 1784. This makes the brewery the oldest in the Amberg area. To this day, brewing takes place in a building dating from the Middle Ages.

Types of beer

Today the family business offers the following types under the name "Freudenberger Bier":

In addition to these standard varieties , a Maibock is brewed seasonally and a festival beer is brewed before Christmas. All types are available in 0.5 l bottles. Freudenberger Pils is also sold in a green 0.33-liter bottle. The most popular varieties are also filled into barrels (including small reusable party barrels).

The beers are only available regionally from the brewery or in some shops in or in the area around Amberg.

Awards

The Freudenberger beers were already very successful at the international World Beer Cup . In recent years, Freudenberger Hell, Freudenberger Pils, Freudenberger Hefeweizen, Freudenberger Märkator and Freudenberger Leicht have achieved top placements.

Another prestigious award from the brewing scene followed in November 2010, the golden “European Beer Star”, which the Märkl brewery received for the Freudenberger Dunkel variety.
