The brown-cheeked weaver ( Ploceus batesi ) is an endangered species from the family of weaver birds (Ploceidae). The bird is endemic to Cameroon . During inventories in recent years, there were no reports of a sighting of the brown-cheeked weaver. The reasons for this are unclear. This is why the bird is on the IUCN's Red List of Endangered Species .

features

The little weaver is about 12 to 14 centimeters tall. The male has a light chestnut colored head. In contrast to this is the black neck that extends all the way to the nape of the neck. A small yellow collar separates the head from the olive-green body. The lower part of the plumage is golden yellow, while the tail shimmers black. The female is very similar. The only difference is that the head is black instead of chestnut. So there is no color difference between head and neck.

Distribution area

The brown-cheeked weaver is only native to Cameroon. There the bird was only discovered in the south and west of the country. In the west he was last seen on a nearby belt around Limbe , at the foot of the Cameroon Mountain and east of Moloundou . It was observed in the Dja Wildlife Reserve in 1995 near Somalomo and 1996 near Shwani . In 1990 the brown cheek weaver was registered at least twice on the Kupeberg.
