Coordinates: 41 ° 19 ′ S , 148 ° 14 ′ E The Break O'Day Municipality is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Tasmania . The area is 3809 km² and has about 6100 inhabitants (2016).
Break O'Day is located in the northeast of the island on the coast and is about 190 kilometers from the capital Hobart . The area includes 29 hamlets and villages: Akaroa, Ansons Bay, Beaumaris, Binalong Bay, Chain of Lagoons, Cornwall, Eddystone, Falmouth, Four Mile Creek, Goshen, Goulds Country, Gray, Lottah, Mangana, Mathinna, Poimena, Pyengana, Round Hill, Scamander, Upper Scamander, Seymour, St Helens , Stieglitz, St. Marys , Upper Esk, The Gardens, The Station, West Pyengana and Weldborough. The seat of the Municipality Council is in the village of St Helens in the east of the LGA on Georges Bay, where around 1500 people live (2016).

The Break O'Day Municipality Council has nine members. The mayor (mayor), his deputy (deputy) and seven councilors are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Break O'Day is not divided into districts.
