Coordinates: 42 ° 42 ′ S , 147 ° 15 ′ E The Brighton Municipality is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Tasmania . The area is 180 km² and has around 16,500 inhabitants (2016).
Brighton is located in the southeast of the island and is half part of the area of the capital Hobart . The area includes eight hamlets and hamlets: Bridgewater , Brighton, Brighton Camp, Dromedary, Gagebrook, Old Beach, Pontville and Tea Tree. The seat of the council is in the town of Brighton in the center of the LGA, where about 4000 inhabitants live (2016).

The Brighton Council has nine members. The mayor (mayor), his deputy (deputy) and seven councilors are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Brighton is not subdivided into districts.
