Brederwiede was a municipality in the Dutch province of Overijssel that only existed for 28 years. It was formed on January 1, 1973 by the union of the four municipalities Blokzijl , Giethoorn , Vollenhove and Wanneperveen . The seat of the administration was Vollenhove. On January 1, 2001, it was incorporated into Steenwijk (officially renamed Steenwijkerland in 2003). On January 1, 2000 Brederwiede had 12,501 inhabitants on 140.73 km². A small part of the municipality (5.51 km² with 17 inhabitants) was added to Zwartewaterland .
