The Breite Straße ( Estonian Lai tänav ) is a street in the Estonian capital Tallinn ( German Reval ).

It runs from north to south largely parallel to Long Street (Estonian: Pikk ), west of this through the old town of Reval.
In the north, it begins on Langstrasse directly at the Große Strandpforte and runs a little to the west, parallel to the Reval city fortifications , and then turns to the southwest. This is where Laboratoriumstrasse ( Laboratooriumi tänav ) joins when coming from the west. In the south, Breite Straße ultimately joins Süsternstraße ( Nunne ).
History and buildings
The name of the street refers to its relatively large width in relation to the other streets and alleys in the old town of Reval.
The horse mill is located in the northern part of the street at the junction with Laboratoriumstraße . The Olaikirche, just a little further south, is particularly striking . There are several historic merchants' houses in Breiten Strasse, such as the Drei Brüder (house number 38/40). Also noteworthy is Hueck's house (number 29) where Tsar Peter the Great visited in 1711 and is said to have planted the linden tree in front of the house. The Estonian Nature Museum is located next to the building .
The Tallinn City Theater is located at number 23 . The Menshikov House , which in the past belonged to a Russian governor, is at number 17.
Various museums are located in the Breite Straße. In addition to the Nature Museum, there is the Estonian Museum of Applied Arts and Design (house number 17), the Estonian Museum of Health Care (house number 30) and at the south end of the street the Museum of Estonian Puppet Theater .
At the southern end of the street, below the Domberg, is the Rehgarten park , in which there is a sculpture of a deer created by the sculptor Jaan Koort .
