The house at Breite Straße 106 is a listed building in the town of Wernigerode in the Harz district in Saxony-Anhalt . It is a residential building that was located directly at the Rimbecker Tor, which was demolished in 1843, below the Neustädter Burgberg and is now referred to as the city corner .

Architecture and history

The building dates from the 1st quarter of the 18th century. It is located in the historic Neustadt of Wernigerode on the south side of Breite Straße , one of the city's main shopping streets. It is one of the few half-timbered houses on this street that has not been modernized. It is relatively small and only has two floors. The roof was not removed. There are two skylights that face the street.

Until the 19th century, the building was located directly at the inner gate of the Rimbecker or Rimker Tor, through which the main traffic from the east led to the city of Wernigerode. The former city gate was demolished as a traffic obstacle, leaving the building at Breite Straße 106 free on the west side.

The building was constructed with functional, simple half-timbering. There are two typical St. Andrew's crosses on both sides of the upper floor. The wooden beam above the doorway on the street side is decorated, with a lettering and the year 1708.

Immediately in front of the house at Breite Straße 106 is the Stadtecke bus stop on the Wernigeröder Verkehrsbetriebe (WVB) city line (lines 2, 3 and 5).

The building used to have the location list number 321. Originally it was a residential building with a courtyard and garden, stable, barn and garden shed. The building was owned by the economist Heinrich Becker in 1895/1896.

The house is listed in the monument register of the city of Wernigerode as an architectural monument under registration number 094 25035.
