The Breitenbend festival is a castle in the westernmost part of North Rhine-Westphalia . Breitenbend was a castle, later a palace and manor , located in the wide, damp lowland meadows ( Benden ) on the right bank of the Rur in front of the gates of the city of Linnich on the opposite bank of the Rur .
history
The exact founding of the Breitenbend can no longer be proven, but is dated to the 9th century. It was first mentioned in the 14th century as a Brabant fief .
The Breitenbend was one of the ancestral castles of the von Pallandt family and was changed several times over the centuries, also due to warlike influences. Around 1908 the estate was acquired by the Düsseldorf machine manufacturer Joseph Losenhausen (1852-1919).
In World War II greatly affected, the last remaining tower was initially in 1950 bailey resigned. In 1973 the end of the Breitenbend took place, the last ruins were completely demolished and the area leveled.
