The cemetery is located in the Donaustadt district of Breitenlee . It covers an area of 11,987 square meters and is home to 1,141 grave sites.
history
The Breitenleer Friedhof dates from 1909 and was built between the village and the suburban settlement. The consecration took place on November 16, 1909 by Prelate Leopold. For the originally denominational, Catholic parish cemetery, a department for the burial of acatholics was created in the south-east, while the death chamber and a dissection room were built in the south-west. The original Breitenleer cemetery around the parish church was closed in 1909, but the monastery cemetery on the west side was not affected by the closure.
The new cemetery was expanded several times due to the growth of the population, most recently in 1964, the current enclosure was built in 1989.
building
Originally there was only one burial chamber in the cemetery, which was occasionally used as a burial room. The plan made in 1943 to replace the burial room with a burial room due to the low number of burials could only be implemented in 1957 due to the Second World War . The laying out room was renovated in 1976 and a carrier room was added in 1978.
In 2001 the funeral hall was rebuilt. The hall consists of a 72 square meter cemetery and has a wooden ceiling structure. The windows and the hall gate are made of bluish glass, the floor is made of marble. The architect of the new building was Christof Riccabona , who also planned the interior design. A glass mosaic by Helmut Margreiter was attached to the altar wall .
