Franz-Karl Effenberg

Franz-Karl Effenberg (born September 28, 1948 in Vienna ; † January 27, 2005 ibid) was an Austrian politician ( SPÖ ) and member of the state parliament in Vienna.

He grew up in the Waldviertel and graduated from Gmünd . His career path led him to the Vienna City Hall , where he worked in financial administration. In the 22nd district of Vienna, Donaustadt , he was a district councilor from 1978 until the then district chairman Rudolf Huber brought him to the Donaustadt as office manager in December 1980. Franz Karl Effenberg remained office manager during Albert Schultz's tenure until he was elected to the Vienna state parliament and local council in 1991 . He was chairman of the Environment and Transport Coordination Committee and a member of the planning committee, also a member of the regional parliament, responsible for alternative energy in Vienna and agricultural spokesman for the SPÖ.

Franz-Karl Effenberg joined the Friends of Nature in 1988. On April 16, 1996, at the suggestion of the then chairman, Mayor Michael Häupl, he was elected managing chairman of Naturfreunde Wien. In 1999 Franz-Karl Effenberg became deputy president of Naturfreunde Austria. At the state conference in 2002 he was elected chairman of the Vienna Friends of Nature.

On January 14, 1998, Effenberg succeeded Leopold Wedel, district chairman from Donaustadt . He died during his tenure and was buried on February 8, 2005 at the Breitenleer Friedhof . He was succeeded on February 24, 2005 by Renate Winklbauer as district head.

In 2011, Effenbergplatz in Vienna- Donaustadt (22nd district) was named after him. The city hiking trail no. 10 through the biotope of the former Breitenleer shunting yard was named Franz-Karl-Effenberg-Wanderweg .
