The Vienna hiking trails are signposted hiking trails in the Austrian capital Vienna . They are administered by the Vienna Forestry Office ( Municipal Department 49) and are easily accessible by public transport. On the individual routes there are usually restaurants, shelters and wine taverns , as well as stamping points where holders of a hiking pass can stamp them.

City hiking trails

The eleven city hiking trails run in the outskirts of Vienna, with the exception of one route through the Prater . Most of them are circular courses that are 7 to 15 kilometers long and take about 2.5 to 5 hours to walk. Most of these hiking trails lead through the Vienna Woods in the west of Vienna. There are some well-known excursion destinations along these routes, for example the Kahlenberg , Leopoldsberg , Hermannskogel and the Sophienalpe .

There is also the “Rundumadum”, a circular hiking trail around the outskirts of Vienna in 24 stages that cover a total of around 120 kilometers. The individual stages are between three and ten kilometers long, the end points of the stage are planned so that they can be reached by public transport. There are stamps on each section.

More hiking trails

Other hiking trails include four nature trails that run in the Lainzer Tiergarten , in the upper Lobau , in Kaiserbrunn (not in Vienna, but in Reichenau an der Rax ) and as a “butterfly path” on the Cobenzl .

The historical educational trail "Napoleon-Rundwanderweg" leads to the Lobau, where Napoleon's headquarters were located in 1809 when he was defeated in the battle of Aspern . It leads past four of six Napoleon Stones, obelisks from the mid-19th century, which are reminiscent of various locations related to the battle. There is also a Panozzalacken circular route in the Upper Lobau and a circular route in the Lower Lobau.

A "water pipeline hiking trail" designed as a two-day hike runs in Lower Austria along the route of the 1st Viennese high spring water pipeline from Kaiserbrunn to Gloggnitz or from Bad Vöslau to Mödling.

The Eastern Austrian Grenzlandweg 07 also runs right through Vienna from Nebelstein in the Waldviertel to Bad Radkersburg and the Voralpenweg 04 starts at the Kahlenberg , on which you can hike to Salzburg.

Furthermore, the Wienfluss path for pedestrians and cyclists has existed between Auhof and the Kennedy Bridge since 2010 .

Former hiking trails

Around 2010 there were two more circular hiking trails in Vienna, some of which also went beyond the state border, as well as two cross-hiking trails. The two cross-Vienna hiking trails ran from north to south and west to east. The 24 km long north-south path led from Kahlenbergerdorf to Unterlaa , also through densely built-up inner-city areas. The west-east route began in Neustift am Walde , ran almost exclusively through the outskirts and ended in Essling .
