Napoleonstein (after Napoleon Bonaparte ) is a name for memorials to veterans and fallen soldiers of the Napoleonic wars, especially in the German areas on the left bank of the Rhine , which were ceded to France after the peace treaty of Campo Formio (1797). Many soldiers were recruited there for the Napoleonic Army , and the Napoleonic veteran cult was correspondingly large there later.
