Pfiffligheim (vernacular Piffelkum, pronunciation ˈpivəlgum ) is a town in Wonnegau in the Rhine-Hesse region and has been part of the independent city of Worms since 1898 .

geography

Pfiffligheim is directly connected to the western city center of Worms. In the north, Pfiffligheim borders the Pfrimm with the Pfrimmpark, officially Karl-Bittel-Park , and the district of Hochheim . In the south, the place extends to the Rheinhessenbahn line , which used to be a train station. In a westerly direction to the flow running is arrived at the following first to the north-westerly district Leiselheim and thereafter from the A 61 , which in neighborhood boundary with the viaduct Pfeddersheim spans the valley of the Pfrimm, for further west Pfeddersheim .

The Pfiffligheim district boundaries sometimes go well beyond the northern and also the western district boundaries. In the south is the Horchheim district and in the east it goes seamlessly into Worms, whereby from Pfiffligheim's point of view the district boundary partly extends beyond the district boundary. The municipal area is 463 ha. That is 4.3% of the total area of Worms including the city districts.

history

First mentioned in 1068 under the name Phephilineheim , Pfiffligheim can look back on an extremely long history of villages and settlements. From around 1000 BC A permanent settlement can be proven. Celtic living pits with their post holes as well as numerous ceramic material were found on Donnersbergstrasse, above the Pfrimm.

The former parish church of St. Stephanus was subordinate to the diocese of Worms , was first mentioned in 1141 and demolished in 1836. Bishop Reinhard von Rüppurr described it in a document dated June 1, 1522 as "doomed to ruin because of its age" and supported its renovation with a collection letter and the granting of an indulgence . It was not far from the Gothic portal with a man gate (inscribed "1425" on the top), which once led to the historic cemetery, which was opened in 1863. The portal is the oldest surviving structure in the village and is located in the street Am Cookingberg .

Both in the Thirty Years' War and later in the Palatinate War of Succession , Pfiffligheim was completely destroyed. A population survey ordered in 1698, nine years after the War of Succession , shows only 33 families with 160 people in Pfiffligheim. Around 1700 the people of Pfiffligheim built a town hall. The Protestant parish church with a picturesque onion dome was built in 1722. After the place became part of the Electoral Palatinate through the comparison between Elector Johann Wilhelm von der Pfalz and his brother Bishop Franz Ludwig von Worms in 1705, it was subordinated to the Oberamt Alzey and remained with the Electoral Palatinate until the political upheavals at the end of the 18th century. Century. After the Left Bank of the Rhine was ceded to France in 1801, Pfiffligheim came under French administration. In July 1816 the village came to the Grand Duchy of Hesse . At the same time as the suburb of Hochheim and only shortly after Neuhausen , Pfiffligheim was incorporated into the city of Worms in 1898 .

The newly built Worms tram came to Pfiffligheim in 1906 with a track through Donnersbergstrasse and Landgrafenstrasse. With two stops (one on Wehrgasse and the end point at the town hall), the tram brought the final connection to the city of Worms. In 1956 the bus service was switched to.

Since 1994, the town has been given a certain degree of independence through the election of a mayor . The incumbent is currently Ernst-Dieter Neidig (SPD).

Surname

The place owes its name to the Franconian Pephilo , who took possession of Pfiffligheim around 500 AD and built his home here.
