Location of Rheindürkheim in Worms

Rheindürkheim has been a district of Worms in southern Wonnegau since June 7, 1969 .

The village is located about eight kilometers north of the city directly on the Rhine at the height of the Rhine kilometer 451. The place includes the six residential areas Dammstrasse, Rheinhessen electricity station, Fahrt , chicken farm, Mückenhäuser Hof and sports field. The district borders the city of Osthofen in the west, the Worms-Ibersheim district in the north and lies on the left bank of the Rhine between the Rhine river kilometers 449 and 453.5.

coat of arms

The post-war coat of arms of Worms-Rheindürkheim today shows a quartered shield. In the first field in black shows a crowned lion, which is supposed to establish the historical reference to the Electoral Palatinate ( Palatinate Lion ). The field below with three silver eagles on a blue background refers to the temporary landlords, the Counts of Leiningen . In the heraldic upper left quarter in gold with a blue key crossed by a blue crosier is intended to commemorate the bishopric of Worms . The lower left quarter in silver with a blue boat hook and a blue scythe refers to the village's own tradition.

history

Rheindürkheim 1903, town hall, memorial and church

Traces of settlement in Rheindürkheim and the surrounding area range from the Neolithic to Celtic and Roman traces of settlement.

On October 21, 812, Werner I (Prefect of the East) gave a court rider, with a house and two yokes of farmland, to the Lorsch Monastery . He was the son-in-law of Adeltrud, married to Count Eberhard ( Sieghardinger ), who gave Ibersheim goods to the monastery four times .

In addition to the Electoral Palatinate , the diocese of Worms , the Saint Paulus monastery there and the Counts of Leiningen are verifiable as lords of the village. Totally destroyed in 1689 during the War of the Palatinate Succession , the rebuilt Rheindürkheim came to France in 1798, as did the entire Left Bank of the Rhine , and until 1814 was part of the Donnersberg department and the Bechtheim canton . In 1816 it became part of Rheinhessen and thus belonged to the Grand Duchy of Hesse . In 1848/49 militants, supporters of the Baden revolt and Hessian-Prussian troops fought each other on the municipal boundary between Rheindürkheim and Bechtheim / Mettenheim. On March 26, 1945, the 45th US Division marched in and ended the NSDAP's rule of violence. It crossed the Rhine to the right bank of the Rhine. Rheindürkheim became part of the new state of Rhineland-Palatinate in 1945 .

Economy and Infrastructure

The founding of the United Strohstoff-Fabriken with headquarters in Dresden and its plants in Coswig , Rheindürkheimer Fahrt and Dohna in 1886 was of historical economic importance . In 1948 the company headquarters were relocated to Rheindürkheim. The company was now called Rheinische Strohzellstoff AG and was one of the oldest and largest straw pulp factories in Germany. This raw material was older than wood pulp and covered almost all of West German needs. Numerous jobs were created. In 1963 paper and cardboard production withdrew from this raw material. The company was shut down, the AG was liquidated, jobs and tax revenues disappeared. Today logistics centers are growing in the designated industrial area.

traffic

Rheindürkheim lies on the national highway 9 and has the same to the southern Gemarkungsgrenze by a motorway slip connection to the left-bank A61 motorway .

Public transport

The next DB station is in Osthofen . The city bus line 431 (formerly 411) runs from Worms main station via Mainzer Straße and the industrial area North to Rheindürkheim and from there to Osthofen. Another bus connection, line 432, supplies the route from Worms main station - Rheindürkheim - Ibersheim - Hamm - Eich - Gimbsheim - Guntersblum . Late evening drive Ruftaxis , which must be ordered by phone prior to the desired departure. A special tariff applies to these, but annual and half-year tickets from the Rhein-Neckar transport association (VRN) are accepted.

Old Rheinbahn

The economic development at the time pushed the construction of the old Rhine railway, the first section of which from Osthofen to Rheindürkheim was put into operation as early as 1897. In 1993 the entire line was closed. The car and road construction made the railroad superfluous.
