John Pierrakos

John C. Pierrakos ( February 8, 1921 , † February 1, 2001 ) was an American psychiatrist and one of the founders of bioenergetics . Eva Broch (1915-1979), the daughter of the writer Jakob Wassermann , whom he married in 1972, he worked on the concept of path work ( english pathwork ), a holistic view of man, the psychology and meditation together. Together they ran the Center For the New Man in Phenicia , New York State.

Pierrakos was fascinated by Wilhelm Reich's investigations and his new human biology, into which he introduced the aspect of life energy. Pierrakos pursued the question of what this formative energy is, what the primal energy of life consists of and how it manifests itself in humans. The investigation of these aspects, in collaboration with Alexander Lowen, led to the development of body-oriented psychotherapy in bioenergetics. Together with William Walling , Pierrakos and Lowen founded the Institute for Bioenergetic Analysis in New York in 1956 .

After Eva died in 1979, Pierrakos again concentrated on the training of therapists. From the concepts of path work and bioenergetics he developed the core energetics , which supplements the bioenergetic approach with a spiritual dimension. Core energetics urges the therapist to recognize the essence in himself and in the other and to work towards it.

To make his work internationally known, John Pierrakos traveled and worked until his death shortly before his eightieth birthday.
