The broad-headed flies (Eurychoromyiinae) are a subfamily of the polishing flies . This group was run as a separate family under the name Eurychoromyiidae for almost a century, although it was based on only one species, Eurychoromyia mallea . The species Eurychoromyia mallea is only known from four specimens that Wilhelm Schnuse found during a collecting trip to Bolivia in 1903 . Two of the type specimens are in the collection of the Natural History Museum in Vienna , the others in the Museum für Tierkunde Dresden . In 2010 the genus Tauridion, known since 1995, was also placed in the group of broad-headed flies, plus five newly described genera. The newly defined group now counts as a subfamily to the family of polisher flies.
