Representation of a braking curve

Braking curve refers to a diagram that shows the dependency of the speed of a braking train (or an individually moving locomotive ) on the distance covered since the beginning of the braking process.

Braking curves are controlled by modern train control systems such as B. by ETCS or PZB 90 , calculated to monitor the speed of a train. To do this, the driver has to enter various data such as maximum speed, train length, train weight or type of brakes before starting the journey. If the train moves to a danger point, e.g. B. a main signal showing stop , the train influence monitors the braking process. In doing so, it continuously compares the actual train speed with the currently permitted speed and triggers an emergency brake if it is exceeded .
