Schmittmann is the name of a spirits distillery in the Niederkassel district of Düsseldorf .

history

The Schmittmann distillery was founded in 1818 . The company gradually expanded to include the current site. During the First World War, the company had to deliver the valuable copper devices and equipment and came to a standstill. The brothers Heinrich and Josef Schmittmann then concentrated on expanding the distillery at Niederkasseler Straße 104. The two sons of the Schmittmann brothers, Hubert and Franz Josef, developed the company into a modern distillery after the Second World War.

Kurt Schmittmann, son of Hubert Schmittmann, who had studied distillery technology in Berlin, entered the business in 1965, and in 1989 he became the sole partner. Among other things, he made a name for himself by spreading the velvet collar ceremony in Düsseldorf, for which a little Boonekamp is poured onto a grain . His two daughters later expanded the product range to include products such as the cocoa-nut liqueur Canous and the Schmittmann Gin 1818 . One of the lesser-known products of the Niederkasseler house is a parsley elixir , which is sold under the name "Heart Wine" and is based on the concepts of Hildegard von Bingens .

Today the sisters Sonja and Vera, daughters of Kurt Schmittmann, run the distillery.
