Brent Berlin

Overton Brent Berlin (* 1936 ) is an American anthropologist . Best known is his collaboration with linguist Paul Kay on color names , Basic Color Terms : Their Universality and Evolution (1969).

Berlin received his Ph.D. from Stanford University in 1964. PhD. He was Professor of Anthropology at the University of Georgia .

In 1980 Berlin was elected to the National Academy of Sciences , 1981 to the American Academy of Arts and Sciences .

In 1999 he received the Fyssen Foundation's International Prize, endowed with 200,000 French francs .

2008 Distinguished Economic Botanist Award (together with his wife)
