Brian Mackenzie, Baron Mackenzie of Framwellgate , OBE (born March 21, 1943 in Darlington ) is a British Labor politician and a member of the House of Lords and past President of the Police Superindendents Association .

biography

Youth and education

Mackenzie was born in Darlington . He went to Eastbourne Boys School . After joining the police force, he studied law at the University of London .

Police career

He rose quickly to the police force, becoming Superintendent becoming a Superintendent and later Chief Superintendent in Durham . After studying at the FBI Academy in Quantico (Virginia) , he became active in the Police Superintendents' Association and was its president for three years. From 1997 to 2001 he was an advisor to Home Secretary Jack Straw on police matters.

He was a historic honorary officer at the Durham Billet Masters from 1989 to 2003 . The Rotary Club of Chester-le-Street made him an honorary member in 2001.

Mackenzie was named Officer of the Order of the British Empire in 1998 for his services in the Police Service and the Police Superintendents' Association of England and Wales.

In 1998 Mackenzie was promoted to Life Peer as Baron Mackenzie of Framwellgate , of Durham in the County of Durham . In the House of Lords , Mackenzie spoke mostly on police and criminal matters.

On June 2, 2013, the Sunday Times published an article in which it accused Lord Mackenzie, Lord Cunningham and Lord Laird of being involved in the so-called Cash for Access Affair. The Sunday Times accuses him of offering undercover reporters to hold a paid reception at the House of Lords and to arrange contacts with other members of the House of Lords. He denied having broken parliamentary rules to the BBC.

He is married and has two children and four grandchildren.
