Brian Simpson (born February 6, 1953 in Leigh ) is a British politician and was a member of the European Parliament for the Labor Party , as a member of the Party of European Socialists .

Life

Simpson received his diploma in education from the West Midlands College of Education in 1974 and then worked as a teacher in Liverpool until 1989 . From 1981 to 1986 he was a member of the Merseyside County Council and Vice Chairman of Liverpool Airport . From 1987 to 1991 Simpson was a member of Warrington City Council . He has been a Member of the UK Parliament since 1997. Simpson was the private parliamentary secretary to former British Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott .

Simpson is married and has three children.

In the European elections in 1989 Simpson was elected to the European Parliament for the first time , a member of which he remained until the 2004 European elections .

When Terence Wynn resigned from the European Parliament in 2006, Simpson replaced him on August 28, and in the European elections in the United Kingdom in 2009 he was able to win another mandate. He is a member of the social democratic group S&D and was chairman of the Committee on Transport and Tourism from 2009 to 2014 .
