Brian Tobin (tennis player)

Brian Tobin (born December 5, 1930 in Perth , Western Australia ) is an Australian tennis player and official.

Life and achievement

Tobin was closely associated with tennis for over fifty years. He has been a member of the Australian Tennis Association since 1964 and was its president from 1977 to 1989. The Australian was also responsible for the new construction of the tennis arena in Melbourne in 1988 , the stadium where the Australian Open will be played today.

During his more than 20 years in the International Tennis Federation (ITF), he held the office of President from 1991 to 1999 and, after his retirement in 1999, was made Honorary Lifelong President. Under his leadership, the association grew in importance and expanded its activities in the area of ​​the Davis and Fed Cups , as well as at the Olympic Games.

In his active tennis career, Tobin was one of the top ten Australian players from 1956 to 1962. In 1964 and 1967 he was the captain of the Australian Fed Cup team and won the 1964 women's title.

In 2003 he was inducted into the International Tennis Hall of Fame because of his services to tennis .
