Brian Ulrich

Brian Ulrich (* 1971 in Northport , New York ) is an American photographer. He teaches at the Art Institute of Chicago .

Live and act

In his work he examines the peculiarities of consumer society . Together with his fellow students, Matt Siber and Jon Gitelson , he works in a loose artist group called "Chicagraphy". He works heavily with new media and includes the World Wide Web and blogs in his projects.

In 2001, following a request from the Bush administration to strengthen the national economy through increased consumption , Ulrich started a project to document consumer culture in the USA. Copia , is a series of large photographs of people shopping, supermarkets and goods.

Ulrich's work is among others in the Museum of Contemporary Art San Diego ; Museum of Fine Arts, Houston ; Art Institute of Chicago ; and Museum of Contemporary Photography, Chicago . In 2009 he received a Guggenheim scholarship .

He lives in Chicago .
