Matt Siber

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Matt Siber (* 1972 in Chicago , Illinois ) is an American photographer who focuses on the fascination of consumption in his pictures . Together with his fellow students, Brian Ulrich and Jon Gitelson , he works in a loose artist group called “Chicagraphy”. Like his colleagues, Siber also heavily incorporates new media such as the web and blog into his work.

Life

Matt Siber was born in Chicago in 1972 but grew up in Brookline, a suburb of Boston . He studied history and geography at the University of Vermont , where he graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1994. In 2003 he received a Master of Fine Arts degree in photography from Columbia College Chicago. He initially worked as a freelance photographer for St. Lawrence University ( New York State ), the Salvation Army and the magazine "Hooked on the Outdoors".

In his floating logos series , he presents company logos like heavenly beings. Detached from the earth, the logos float in heaven. The view from below also reflects the dominant presence of some companies today; Logos seem to float unconsciously in our perception.

In the Untitled Project series , Siber photographs everyday scenes in the city, removing all text elements from the selected image sections.

Siber's paintings are exhibited in the USA and Europe , mainly in Spain. His work is represented, for example, by The Art Institute of Chicago , the Museum of Contemporary Photography in Chicago and the San Sebastián in Spain . His pictures have been published in magazines such as ArtForum , Flash Art , Aperture and EXIT Magazine . Matt Siber teaches Digital Imaging at Columbia College Chicago .
