PHotoEspaña is an international festival of photography and visual arts, which every summer in Madrid taking place.

history

The festival was launched in 1998 and has grown in importance over the years. Francis Hodgson of the Financial Times wrote in 2014 that the PHotoEspaña gives all photo festivals around the world a standard to strive for.

In 2013, the festival was awarded the gold medal for merits to the fine arts by the Ministry of Education, Culture and Sports .

The 20th anniversary will be celebrated in 2018. The festival will take place from June 6th to August 26th, 2018.

The heart of the PHotoEspaña lies along the Paseo de la Castellana , the city's main artery. There were also exhibitions in Toledo , Aranjuez , Paris , Lisbon and Cuenca .

Prices

At the PHotoEspaña, various prizes are awarded every year for the most outstanding publications of the year as well as for the professional career of national and international photographers.

  • PHotoEspaña : The award recognizes the professional career of a personality in the field of photography (national or international).   • PHE al Mejor Libro de Fotografía del año : It honors the best publication of national and international photography that appeared last year as well as the most outstanding publisher . Latin American photography by RM / Toluca Éditions and The Little Black Jacket , published by Steidl Verlag in the international category. The Outstanding Editor of the Year award went to Hatje Cantz Verlag .
  • Festival Off : A jury of experts selects the gallery that has shown the best exhibition of the Festival Off. Last winner: Galerie Max Estrella for the exhibition Humanæ by Angélica Dass.
  • PHotoEspaña OjodePez de Valores Humanos : PHotoEspaña and the magazine OjodePez distinguish a documentary photographic work that emphasizes the values ​​of solidarity, ethics, justice or effort. The previous winner was Manuel Zamora for his Aparkados los sueños series .
  • del Público : Every year visitors to the festival choose their favorite exhibition.
