Brianna Keilar

Brianna Keilar (born September 21, 1980 in Canberra ) is an American television presenter and journalist . She is hosting a newscast on CNN's Washington, DC office

Life

Keilar was born in Canberra , Australia . Her father Glenn is Australian and her mother Miriam was American. In 1982, Keilar and her family moved to the United States and initially lived in Orange County, California . In 2001 she graduated in Mass Communications and Psychology from the University of California, Berkeley , where she was a member of the Phi Beta Kappa Society .

In May 2009, Keilar married Dave French .

Career

Keilar started as an intern and production assistant at KTVU Channel 2 in Oakland , California . In 2001 she went to KIMA-TV , a subsidiary of CBS in Yakima, Washington, as a reporter .

In 2003, Keilar moved to New York to work as a newscaster, reporter and producer for CBS News on mtvU. On CBS News on mtvU, she reported on the 2004 primaries and elections in New Hampshire , Boston and New York City . She also reported on the 2005 NFL Draft (Acquisition of Football Player Rights ). As a newscaster, she hosted CBS News' Up to the Minute . She also worked as a freelance reporter for the CBS Evening News Weekend Edition before joining CNN.

Keilar received the 2009 Everett McKinley Dirksen Award for Distinguished Reporting of Congress from the National Press Foundation for her report on the $ 700 billion bailout following the 2008 financial crisis . She reported on various topics. In 2007, she was the first local CNN correspondent at the Virginia Tech rampage .
