Bribir (part of the municipality of Novi Vinodolski , Primorje-Gorski kotar County ) is a small town in Croatia , on the top of a mountain in the Vinodol (wine valley).

history

The first traces of life in this area date from the Paleolithic Age . Liburnians lived here before the 2nd century BC. The Romans came and the natives Romanized. The Croats came in the 7th century . The Roman names were given Croatian translations (e.g. Vallis vineariae - Wine Valley - Vinodol). The Frankopan dynasty had ruled the area since the 13th century . They built a fortress on the mountain, around which today's place developed. The only remains of the castle are the square tower Kula, built in 1302, and part of the walls. The Church of “St. Peter and Paul ”was built in 1524. In the 16th century the royal family of the Zrinski received the Vinodol. After the unsuccessful conspiracy of Petar Zrinski and Fran Krsto Frankopan against the Emperor and Hungarian King Leopold and the disempowerment and beheading of the two, a long economic and cultural stagnation began in Vinodol.

The municipality of Vinodol today includes the places Drivenik , Tribalj , Grizane-Belgrade and Bribir, the administrative seat of the municipality. These small places nowadays arose around the medieval fortifications built by the Frankopan princely family. The cultural flourishing of these places is also thanks to the Frankopans. Numerous cultural monuments are associated with her name.

Geographically, Vinodol is a valley that lies between Krizisce in the northwest, Novi Vinodolski in the southeast and the coast on the Vinodol Canal . There are sunny, hot and dry summers and mild winters, similar to those on the coast. The average annual temperature in the valley is 14 ° C. The forest has a continental climate. Its name documents a long winemaking tradition that goes back to Roman times ( Vallis vinearia ).

Here you will find many hares, partridges, stone foxes, foxes, martens, deer and roe deer, as well as wolves and bears. Hunting is particularly attractive in spring, autumn and the winter months. Various hunting specialties can be enjoyed in the hunting lodges. The highest peak is the Visevica 1428 m above sea level. d. The forest is also of interest to hikers and collectors of forest fruits, medicinal plants and mushrooms. The lake in Tribalj is very rich in fish.

The architecture in the Vinodol has a special design that was influenced by the climate and the earlier way of life. The houses and their gates are made of stone, the basic building material.
