Novi Vinodolski [ ˈnɔːʋi ˈʋinɔdɔl.ski ] is a town on the Croatian Adriatic coast, not far from Rijeka and Crikvenica . Vinodolski got its name from the viticulture around the town (Vinodol = wine valley). According to the 2011 census, the population of Novi Vinodolski is 5,113.
The town has a very rich history. Among other things, Novi Vinodolski was the seat of the Dukes of Bribir , at that time a neighboring town of Novi Vinodolski, and the famous Croatian noble family of Frankopans (ung. Frangépan) also settled here. A famous document is the Vinodolski zakonik , the Vinodol code of law.
The tourism industry rules the economy. Hotels, tent camps, bungalows, apartments, rooms in private houses and ancillary apartments can accommodate 10,000 tourists. The city offers leisure and sports facilities. The Vinodol valley is famous for wine making. The wines produced in the area are similar to those from the neighboring island of Krk, with Žlahtina being the main variety. Cabernet Sauvignon and Chardonnay are also produced. Wine production has been promoted significantly since the 1990s.
