Čavle (Italian: Zaule di Liburnia ) is a municipality in Croatia in the Primorje-Gorski kotar County .

Location and inhabitants

According to the 2011 census, 7,220 people live in the total municipality, which consists of ten localities. The main town Čavle alone has 1,358 inhabitants and is located in the eastern part of the Grobničko polje , the hinterland of Rijeka . Čavle is located directly on the highway from Rijeka to Zagreb .

history

Grobnik castle complex

In the Grobnik district there is a fort that the Frankopan family had built. The castle was built in the 15th century and expanded continuously. The complex itself is separated from the Grobnik settlement by walls and bastions.

Others

In 1977 the Grobnik Automotodrom was built in Grobnik , where the Yugoslavian Grand Prix took place 13 times as part of the motorcycle world championship .

The Soboli district was the location of several Karl May films in the 1960s.
