Fužine is a municipality in Croatia in the Primorje-Gorski kotar County .

Location and inhabitants

The municipality of Fužine is located in the southwestern part of the Gorski kotar , 30 km east of Rijeka , surrounded by the three lakes Bajer, Lepenica and Potkoš. The mountains around Viševica 1428 m and Bitoraj 1385 m allow a view of the sea with the Kvarner islands.

The entire municipality consists of the six villages Belo Selo, Benkovac Fužinski, Fužine, Lič, Slavica and Vrata and, according to the 2011 census, has 1,592 inhabitants, 685 of which live in the main town of Fužine.

history

The oldest settlement in the municipality, Lič, was first mentioned in the 12th century. The Vrelo cave was discovered in the 1950s . Today the 300 m long cave is a major tourist attraction.
