The Woolmers Estate

The Brickendon and Woolmers Estates (German: Brickendon and Woolmers Ländereien ) are located in the north of Tasmania , Australia , near Longford , about 20 kilometers from Launceston .

The Brickendon and Woolmers Estates have been jointly registered in the Australian National Heritage List in Australia since November 23, 2007 and have been a recognized UNESCO World Heritage Site since August 2010 . They are an example of the eleven listed convict sites in the UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Australian Convict Sites . The two ensembles had been owned by the Archer family for six generations from 1817 on, which died out in 1994. The two properties are cut by the meandering Macquarie River and are seven kilometers apart.

The listed lands and buildings represent an example of British colonial policy in Australia for the provision of labor from convicts to private landowners for construction and farm work in the early 18th century, only paid for by food and clothing.

The building complexes in the Georgian architectural style consist of residential and farm buildings, workshops, stables and rose gardens. They have remained almost unchanged to this day. This also applies to the furniture contained there.
