Bridgetown is a city in Nova Scotia , Canada . The city is in the Annapolis Subd. Administrative unit. B with 3,707 inhabitants incorporated. 1,035 inhabitants live in the city itself.

history

The Bridgetown area was fought over by Mi'kmaq Indians, Acadians and British . The Battle of Bloody Creek in 1757 was one of the many fought to gain control of the area. When the Acadians were driven out by the British, new settlers arrived from the American colonies in 1783, loyalists loyal to the British crown. They founded the city and built the first bridge over the Annapolis River in 1803 . Captain James Crosskill from England took charge of the town and set the boundaries in 1821. In 1822 the city was officially named Bridgetown. It was granted city rights in 1897.

economy

Shipbuilding dominated the city in the 19th century . Today the city lives from agriculture and the processing of its products. At the end of September, when the apples are picked , the city celebrates the Bridgetown Cider Festival every year .
