Bridport is a city in the northeast of the Australian state of Tasmania . It is located on Anderson Bay on the north coast of the island and belongs to the Local Government Area Dorset Municipality . The 2016 census counted 1,266 inhabitants.

The streets in the northern half of Bridport are given men's names and those in the southern half are given women's names.

Facilities

In the city there are supermarkets, hotels, a pharmacy, a bakery, a butcher, a clothing store, golf courses, bowls, a sailing club, a small hospital, a visitor information center, a campground and a number of accommodation options from youth hostels to bed and breakfasts to holiday complexes .

traffic

The nearest towns are Scottsdale 19 km southeast, Tomahawk on Ringarooma Bay 38 km east and Bellingham on Noland Bay 19 km west.

Flinders Island , part of the Furneaux Group , can be reached by ferry from Bridport. A small plane also flies there from the Bridport Aerodrome .

leisure

Bridport is a popular resort with beautiful beaches for swimming, sailing and other water sports.

In Bridport there is both commercial and recreational fishing from the rocks or small boats.

golf

In 2004 the Barnbougle Dunes golf course was established in the sand dunes 3 km northeast of Bridport. It was soon one of the 50 best golf courses in the world. Another golf course, Lost Farm , was built nearby and opened in December 2010. It meets the same high standard as the former and has clubhouses high on the sand dunes with spectacular views of the beach and Anderson Bay.

In 2008 a helicopter service was set up to bring guests from Launceston to Bridport. It applies specifically to golfers who only come to Tasmania to play.
